AMST304 Senior Seminar in American Studies

Georgetown’s Senior Seminar in American Studies helps fourth-year students in the program produce a senior thesis in the course of their final year of undergraduate study.

In concert with the production of their theses, the seminar encourages students to reflect on their place as emergent scholars in a dynamic, interdisciplinary field. Students explore the role played by print technology in traditional academic scholarship, and reflect on novel forms of argument, persuasion, and even cognition made possible by new media.

The course is built around the evolving, unpredictable needs of the students: New technologies like on-demand video, blogs, vlogs, and semantic tagging allow us to blur the line between theory and practice, and make the class a genuinely collaborative enterprise.
